before smiling, hands at her waist in a sort of alien, trying-to-mimic-politeness pose, which is made slightly more silly-looking with one hand holding a broom (and thus, the handle simply goes across the threshold so none could enter or exit the doorway) and the other tightly balled up into a fist.
